Barcelona is well known for its rich history and culture, amazing food including tapas and paella, and unique architecture which makes it a popular travel destination. Travel to Barcelona from the US is remarkably accessible given the increase in affordable flights to the city. I personally snagged an incredible flight dealfor $380 round trip! Given its affordability, Barcelona should be on your travel wish list. One of my greatest travel goals is to find the best views. The feeling of awe I experience viewing a city from above is indescribable. Clearly, I am not the only one who feels this way, because many attractions charge an arm and a leg to give customers access to incredible birds-eye views. While paying for a view is completely understandable, I find greater satisfaction in finding unexpectedly amazing views while exploring (for little to no cost). Read on to find out how to find some of the best views of Barcelona in unexpected places.
How to Find Amazing Views of BarcelonA
Tour Barcelona Cathedral
Barcelona Cathedral is a well-known tourist attraction in Barcelona. It was built sometime during the 13th to 15th century and serves as the seat of the Arch Bishop of Barcelona. The architecture outside and within the Barcelona Cathedral is breathtaking. For a small admission fee of €7, you can tour this historic gem. While touring the Barcelona Cathedral taking countless pictures of the breath-taking interior, I was interrupted by my mother who was waving me over to an alcove off to the side of the main altar. I left my personal photo shoot and went to investigate. I found a small alcove with an attendant waving me and my family toward an elevator. The attendant did not speak English so we were clueless as to the destination of this elevator. We joined a group of equally confused tourist on a small elevator and embarked on a mystery ride. Once we reached our stop the doors opened to the rooftop. We climbed a few steps to get the ultimate rooftop view of Barcelona from above. If you plan to visit the Barcelona Cathedral, don't pass up the opportunity to get this great view of Barcelona from above. At only €7, it is an inexpensive way to get an amazing view.
Explore Park Güell
Gaudi's genius architecture can be seen in multiple structures throughout Barcelona including La Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, and Park Güell. Park Güell is well known for its mosaic structures but it also holds the home of Gaudi and offers a vast playground of Gaudi designed outdoor space.I was very disappointed when I visited Park Güell because I made a true travel rookie mistake: I didn't purchase tickets ahead of time. Of course, the area containing the famous mosaics was sold out for all upcoming time slots, leaving us to tour the less popular outdoor area. Much to my delight, there was so much more to see in this park including a beautiful view of Barcelona from above. A visit to Park Güell is a must, as are all the other Gaudi structures. Entrance to this area of Park Güell is free and is full of great photo spots.
Expect the Unexpected
Sometimes you can find the best places by just exploring and getting away from the more popular photo spots. Learn from my happy accidents and go out and find some great views. Stumbling onto unexpected awe-inspiring sites is the best part of traveling.
